Patek Philippe 5990/1a

At Basel Fair 2014 one of Patek Philippes biggest releases was the new reference 5990/1a. The reason I say one of the biggest releases is due to the fact that anytime a new reference is added to the Nautilus collection, it’s a huge deal because of how iconic the Nautilus line is. Its not all smiles however because in gaining the references 5990 we are losing the brilliant 5980/1a. With that said many collectors are chomping at the bit for the 5990/1a to hit the markets. There are rumors that a select few people have taken delivery of the first ones via the Geneva Salon. For us mere mortals we are still going to have to wait for them to hit Authorized Dealers world wide. We at Swiss Watch Time are hearing allocation for this new travel time chronograph will be very limited. With the already high demand for this piece we are already seeing another Patek that will be trading above MSRP much like the 5235g. Now about the 5990/1a. This is Pateks first watch with a chronograph as well as a travel time function. This Patek Philippe has day and night indicators for each time zone as well as a stick indicator date wheel. The travel time function is the best in the business even better than the 5130 world timer in our options. The travel time function is the same that can be found in the 5164a Aquanaut. The chronograph is often an under appreciated function but having said that it fits well with this reference. It also takes the sting out of losing the 5980/1a. All in all the 5990/1a is a winner.
